Daily Keemo. 1.5.11 For Now I Will Just Be

For Now I Will Just Be

I'm sad.

I wrote the story to this painting and then walked away. I didn't save the file before I walked away. I don't know what I was thinking.

I'm sad.

It was actually a nice story and was tender and honest and then I walked away not thinking and when I came back the screen was blank and all the words were gone and that was it.

There is no sense in trying to rewrite it. At least not right now. I will attempt the story again later when the time and the words are right. For now though, I'll just be... sad

Daily Keemo. 11.26. Bend And Sway As They Move Around Your Head

The Story

My head has been in the cloud of HTML and PHP and CSS for the last few weeks while I straighten out the website and in between those acronymns there has been little time for art and color and words and thoughts that bend and sway as they move around your head. The language of acronymns cannot do that as the rules are strict and when you break them, they are indeed, broken. Well, the site is done or at least done enough to get back to the paints and the words and the color and the thoughts th that bend and sway while painting pictures of people who are like kings and kings who are like people.

Daily Keemo. 3.16. The King

The King
Click

The King is the 4th in a 4 painting series that are going to be coming out in the next month or so. I was recently contacted by a German company about producing a "collectors" series of postcards that will be distributed through their 7,500 locations around Germany and in conjunction with the German postal service. Attached to the initial email was some of my past work that they would like to use for the series. I didn't want to just send off the hi-res scans of past work to be used for the cards. I wanted to create new pieces that could be used to represent where things are now. So, I thought it would be best to paint an updated version of the pieces they were requesting. So, with that in mind, here is the original painting for another of the upcoming cards. This particular painting is inspired by a series of King/Queen paintings from 2007. As one collector said to me, "Why get the print when you can get the original?" Good point. Anyway, thats it for this one...Enjoy!

Daily Keemo 10.01 - King

I Think I'm Turning Japanese

Click

This seems to be happening more and more. I get requests for certain subjects. It happens a few times a week now. It reminds me of when I was in middle school and we would call the local radio station and request a song and then listen all night waiting to hear it. If you were lucky, the DJ would say something like, "By request, here are The Vapors Turning Japanese for Jeff, Matt and Keemo!" and we would all be like "No waayyyyyyyyy he said our names! How awesome!!!!!" We were goofs. Anyway, with that in mind... "By request, this "King" goes out to Joy in beautiful Southern California"... Enjoy!

Daily Keemo 08.11 - Florida

Famous For It's Cleanliness

Click

An old flyer from a boat tour down in Florida. This has to be from the late 50's or early 60's. One of their many slogan was "Famous For Its Cleanliness" How great is that. Another was "The Best 2 Dollars You Can Spend". They even boast "Alligator Wrestling" Well, I suppose this speaks for itself...Enjoy! (Another great find from B&J. Thanks!)

Daily Keemo 07.17 - Bedroom Fashions

I suppose this one doesn't have much of a story. That is OK for a change I suppose. It's almost midnight anyway. It has been a long day and somehow ending the day with a portrait on an old avertisement from 1959 just seems right. I think I will leave it at that and leave it to you to make up your own on this one... Enjoy!

Daily Keemo 07.03 - The King

The King (on Wood)

I have this stack of papers, magazines, clippings, and other stuff that I collect that I think I might use some day. The stack was getting a bit unruly. So, today I thought I would go through it and see what I could work with and much to my surprise I find this 1x4 that I swore I already painted on. I remember cutting it out on the saw in the garage. I remember bringing it in to start working on it but somehow it ended up at the bottom of my pile. Hmmmm... I don't know... I know I forget stuff, get too much going on, next thing I know I'm off in another direction. I guess the good thing is that I eventually find my way back to it. Like this piece of wood I suppose. With that here is to lost things that are found... Enjoy!

Daily Keemo 06.20 - Red King Button #10

The Red King. Button #10
Click

This is #10 in the limited edition button series. This is the limited edition button of a painting from 2007 called Red King. (or Those Stripes On Charlie Brown's shirt) - (ACEO/ATC #303)

Story: I received an email this week from someone who said they really liked the King and Queen portraits. I too enjoy them. I like the crown heads because they remind me of the pattern on Charlie Brown's shirt. (I think even mentioning Charlie Brown may warrant a call from their lawyer. Well, I guess I'm living on the edge) Well, as those of you who follow my work know, I always try to take time to do portraits for people who take the time out of their lives to drop me a message. So, here is to the person who took the time to drop an email and share there thoughts with me and here is to the pattern on Charlie Browns shirt! (My phone is ringing... I bet its their lawyer...)...Enjoy!

Daily Keemo 06.12 - Psych

Did I Mention That I Pay My Taxes
(or) A Psychologist's Armchair

Click

I like to think that I have my stuff together. You know, I pay my taxes, I do my best to be kind to people, I open doors for people if the situation calls for it, I often say hi to someone standing in line next to me, I definitely smile more than I frown. I tend to crack a joke before I complain. Did I mention I pay my taxes? Oh I did, sorry about that. I guess the only reason I mention all these things is because none of that tends to balance out just a general sense of feeling like the person in this painting. I suppose it might be only natural to think that just when you think this crazy planet makes perfect sense something happens to remind you that it doesn't. (Maybe it is the act of trying to make sense of everything that doesn't make sense.) A friend once said I was an "armchair psychologist". I said, "more like a psychologist's armchair". We laughed. Anyway... I suppose that's it... I guess with this painting its little more like a psychologists armchair!...Enjoy! (sidenote: my apologies to any real psychologists who read this. Im sure that the proper diagnosis would probably be: "An armchair's armchair)

Daily Keemo 03.08

9
(Click Picture)

The Beatles referenced it. The cat has that many lives. I watched an old episode of Heroes recently and one of the characters lived in Apt. #9. Numerologists might say that it is the most humanitarian of numbers. (I know nothing of numerology so I don't get how a number is humanitarian. I'm sure someone can clarify that.) Anyway, last but not least, there are 9 here because that is how many could fit equally across the page. I suppose had I rotated the paper to portrait, this may have been called 5. Sidenote: I was just thinking this may be the first Keemo posted here that has no color. Feels good for a change... Enjoy!

God Hates Seven Things
(Click Picture)

This is the 9th in the "Book of Facts" series. (I was going through a bunch of books that were stored away in boxes. I ran across this old book of facts. It is just page after page of wierd facts. After about 2 pages, I thought, "this is perfect!") On this page there was just one that jumped out at me as being particular unbelievable: God Hates Seven Things. Am I the only one that finds this a little out of place in a book of facts? I guess it doesn't really matter because it is without a doubt, the best one that I stumbled across and worthy of a painting all its own. As a side note and just to be sure, I did look up Proverbs 6:16-19 and was quite relieved to find that I was not on Gods list of the seven things he hates. Whew! ... Enjoy!

Portrait of King Anthony
(or) one part bob vila, one part jackson pollack and two parts all around good guy.
(Click Picture)

If you ever get to Studio 216 in Granbury TX, I highly suggest that you look at the floors. (Don't forget the paintings of course) If no one is looking, maybe even lay down on the floor to get a closer look. Don't forget the bathroom. Proceed to the mens room and check the floor out there too. Good Stuff. While you are there, also look at the black and white tables. After that proceed to the nearest person and ask for Anthony. After being introduced to him, proceed to shake his hand and say, "It is a pleasure to meet you. I have been admiring your work." At this point, I am guessing he will probably kindly refer to you as "Sir or Mam". (I asked him to stop calling me "sir" but he said his mother would not be happy if he did.) I'm not sure exactly where I am going with this story, other than it just seems right to do a portrait of such a good guy. In the end, I guess that just seems like that is enough in itself. So, here is to you Anthony! Thanks....Enjoy!
