Daily Keemo. 4.16. The One Armed Man Poses With The Kill.

I was lost. Driving along roads in northern Michigan and the GPS couldn't even find the destination. I knew the bridge out sign was not good. The gas gauge was real low and finally on fumes we roll in there and while pumping gas a big truck pulls up and parks on the other side of the pump and 4 hunters get out excited about their kill and the gas station attendant comes out to take a picture of the kill and just then a beat up PT Cruiser pulls up and out gets a man with one arm (seriously) and slurs words to the hunters and they all laugh and then the one armed man poses with the kill and I walk by the kill to go pay for gas because there is no pay at the pump in these parts. (There really is a good 10 minutes more of this story before I finally leave the gas station but this has to wait for the full short story that is coming.) While driving away I couldn't help but daydream about the entire layer of the Michigan existence that I have absolutely no connection to. So, with that... Enjoy!

Daily Keemo. 5.14. Start With Yourself

I have always loved those black silhouette profile portraits. You know the ones, they are solid black, always a profile view of the person. I think they started in France way back in the 1700's. ( If I remember correctly. Maybe I should google it) Anyway, I have been meaning for a long time to create a "Keemo" version of those profile portraits and being that this is the first one, I thought I better start with myself. (That way if it turned out really bad, I wouldnt offend one of my friends.) So, with that, a rare self portrait. I think that this series will definitely continue. The first of many I am sure...Enjoy!

Daily Keemo. 5.13. Still A Possiblity. #4.

Still A Possiblity. #4

I was in a car accident a while ago. It was one of those that everyone walks from. I have heard many people say that at the moment of impact that your life flashes before your eyes. This didn't happen to me. It was more like the inside surface of the car flashing on the outside of my head. It all happens so quickly. You blink and it is over. Instead of “flashing,” I really think that is in those hours afterward that your life strolls slowly by your eyes and you think about it all, the past, the present, the future, those people in your life and out. You think how lucky you are to see your breath in the cold air while waiting for the police to arrive. You think how the pain in your neck is really nothing compared to what could have been. You think that there is nothing wrong with hitting redial on your cell phone 11 times because hearing her voice is about the only thing that matters. It is these moments that you slow and think about it all and are thankful that all of this that we do is still a possibility...Enjoy!

I have a bad headache tonight and the words just are not coming out right. They are stuck somewhere between my brain and the keys like they are stuck at the fingertips and I am sure that the colors on the paper are saying more than I can at the moment. The story about the walk and the clouds and the sun (if you look you will see the clouds and sun, really) just isn't making it to the keys tonight. So, for now, this is what we have; a painting and a headache and words about not having the words to say what I was going to say. With that...Enjoy!

Scenes From A Balcony #1

I was sent a picture of an unknown person standing on an unknown balcony with an unknown city behind him. The railing that kept him from falling many floors down was not visible in the photo so it looked like he was floating in front the buildings, like a superhero only not very much super and not very much here. All rather normal I may say. There was no return address on the envelope and I didn't recognize the handwriting. I do not know the man in the photo. I still am not sure if all this stuff has any importance at all on anything other than it was another strange thing that arrived in my mailbox. Either way, if this isn't reason for a painting than I don't know what is. With that, next time you are on a balcony with the world out behind your back, take a picture and send it over, I'll make Scenes From A Balcony #2... Enjoy!

A few years ago I (and my art) was reviewed by someone who said that my artwork was just "abstract graffiti" because I incorporated a lot of old materials and bits of old magazines or books that were on their way to the trash. It was definitely intended to be a derogatory statement about my artwork. Long story short, after reading it, I went through some old papers, found something, painted "Keemo Was Here" and mailed it to him. Inspiration is all around us if you just look... Well, that was the start of the Keemo Was Here graffiti pieces. Over the years I have done hundreds of these in many different forms and they have ended up all over the world and in many different locations. This is my reminder to always turn someone elses negativity into something postive. Create something where others feel the need to dismantle. Well, with that, Keemo Was Here... Enjoy!

Many Miles And Years From Algebra Daydreams

I have been attempting to write a story about why this newspaper clipping from 1977 was particularly meaningful to me but it just keeps coming out a little off. Going over the story of how I discovered Anais Nin around the age of 15 seems a bit corny for some reason tonight. It was during the Henry Miller phase I was going through and I spent hours in those books and when I was daydreaming in Algebra class, I was in Paris in the 1930's because no one at that age in the desks around me knew what any of that stuff was all about...the writing and painting and music and all the other stuff that if you read the books you know what I mean and somewhere inside I needed to get away from that small town and I suppose eventually I did and I think I found my Anais and I have been with her ever since... I guess I will just leave it at that for tonight... Enjoy!
