Keemo / Jeff Zenick Collaboration #1

A Rabbi, A Priest and a Chicken walk into a bar... Wait, that's the wrong story. There once was a man named Jeff Zenick. Jeff creates great illustrations down in Tallahassee, Florida. Jeff also creates wonderful zines of his travels that are full of stories and illustrations of the people he meets and the places he sees. He also creates great illustrations from old year books. There was another man, named Keemo. Keemo paints pictures up in Grand Rapids, MI where he is known to complain way too much about the snow and cold. "This stinks!" he has been known to say. The two enjoyed each others work and seem to get along just dandy. "Why don't we work on something together?" asked one, to the other. "That would be just swell!", was the reply. So here we go, the first Zenick / Keemo collaboration... Now, lets here the one about the Rabbi, the Priest and the Chicken! ...Enjoy!

It's Her Birthday Today. 7.25" x 10"
(Click Picture)

It's her birthday today. We all woke up early and had a wonderful breakfast at Marie Catribs this morning. We were going to get some birthday cake to go, for later. However, they didnt have the cake we wanted, so we got cup-cakes instead. (If you are in or near Grand Rapids, MI at any time in your life, I highly recommend visiting them for some fine eats and nice people. Get the turkish coffee!) Alright, I got sidetracked, where was I? Oh yeah... it's her birthday today. She is gone for a little while this afternoon, so I thought I would sneak in a little painting time. I should cut this short as she will be back soon and we have some cup-cakes to eat, candles to blow out and a song to sing.... So, with that and since I know she will be reading this, how about joining me in big, "Happy Birthday!"... Enjoy!

I Arrived At This Point After A Few Different Things Happened.
(9 original, individual, illustrations. Not copies.)

(Click Picture)

I arrived at this point after a few different things happened. 1.) I have received a number of emails over the past year from people who have purchased my paintings with the intention of giving them away as a gifts but then after they got it they decided on keeping it for themselves. (I received another one of those emails this past week.) "Can you make another?" I have heard. 2.) I have been experimenting with the idea of trying to produce mulitple editions of original artwork without resorting to prints. (All originals, no copies). 3.) Lastly, I have really liked how the illustrations on the paint samples have been turning out. So, lets put all three of those things together and try something new here. This is what I came up with: 9 original, individual, unique, illustrations of the same portrait. On one hand, you can keep one for yourself and give the other 8 away or you can keep all 9 for yourself. (A friend said they would just matte and frame all 9 together as they are shown here.) Well, I guess I have gone on long enough. I am sure you can come up with even a better idea! So, with all that said... Enjoy!

I Have To Keep One Of These For Myself.
(Click Picture)

I have had this picture sitting around for a few days. I thought I would keep it. Something about it was saying, "Keep Me. Don't get rid of me." (I think it's the left eye). However, I have this theory that it is not good to keep too much of your own artwork around. The best way to keep moving forward as painter is too not hold on to too much of your own work. But every so often one of these pops out and I want to keep it. So, I hold on to it for a few days and enjoy it. Then I remember that it is better off to be enjoyed by others. One of these days I will have to keep one of these wood ones for myself. So, until then, I guess this yours if you would like it... Enjoy!

Portrait While Listening To The Twin Peaks Soundtrack.
The Log Lady Would Be Proud.
7.25" x 10"

(Click Picture)

Its no secret, Im a fan of David Lynch. With that said, we are smack dab in the middle of (re)watching the entire Twin Peaks series. (Thanks to the Twin Peaks DVD set that found its way under our Christmas tree this year.) Coffee anyone? Maybe some pie? Anyway, since this portrait is on wood and Angelo Badalamenti is in the background, it only seems right to pay homage to Twin Peaks, its music and of course, the log lady... Enjoy!

God Wants You and/or Uncommon Products For Married Men. 1963.
(Click Picture)

Here is another ad I ran across in a magazine from 1963. They just don't make them like they used to. The top ad claims "God Want You" and goes on to explain why. I swear I saw the same exact ad on a billboard on the way home from work. I think it just read "Got God?" in big white letters on a solid black background. (Sidenote: how long can they run the "Got Milk?" Spinoffs into the ground?) The bottom has "Uncommon Products for Married Men." Im guessing that God was not in that catalog. Well, I guess not as much has changed as I thought, over the last 45 years. As always ... Enjoy!
